Hello! My name is Matthew "Merlin" Kenney. I've been practicing astrology and magic for over a decade. In my professional practice, I've read over a thousand natal charts, studied ancient texts in their original languages, and spoken at some of the largest and most established astrological and occult platforms in the scene, including Nightlight Astrology, Kepler College, and Sacred Spaces.

FAQ

Can a complete beginner take this course?

Yes! This course is for beginners. No prior knowledge of astrology, magic, or meditation is assumed. However, you must do the work. This may involve reading through the material a couple of times if you have absolutely no exposure to astrology yet. You get what you put into it.

What kind of horoscopic astrology will we learn?

I teach Hellenistic or classical astrology. It is rooted in ancient texts and the ancient lineage of western astrology. Classical astrology is very focused on results, tangible outcomes, and describing the lives of individuals – not just psychology. While a psychological element is present, much of this work is very practical.

What predictive techniques do you teach?

Transits and Zodiacal releasing from the lot of Spirit.

Is this tropical or sidereal astrology?

Tropical

What house system do you use?

Whole Sign houses.

What are the meditations?

We do three primary meditations every day, and four other meditations as supplements. Each of these is a practice aligned with the energies of one of the seven planets. The three primary meditations are the Golden Flower Meditation, standing meditation, and working with chi. These have been chosen specifically to empower your magical rituals.

What kind of magic will we practice?

GNOSIS will introduce you to two different kinds of magical workings – working with planetary spirits and working with nature spirits. For both, the primary focus is on forming relationships and giving offerings. We expand on that with more nuanced workings as the course goes on, such as enlivening statues, making talismans, and more.

Is this part of another school in western occultism, like the O.T.O, Rosicrucianism, or Golden Dawn?

No. GNOSIS is unaffiliated with any other western magical groups or lodges. The pedigree of this school comes from the texts and practices of ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, and Arabs, and not one particular school. The Gnosis Curriculum draws on everything from the Pyramid texts of Ancient Egypt to the Astrological treatises of Roman Alexandria. The meditative practices we engage in ccan be found all over the world and are, frankly, older than any particular “-ism” or contemporary magical order.

How long are the lessons?

The lessons average around 30 pages apiece. They are supplemented with audio recordings, vides, and worksheets. No one has ever complained about there not being enough content.

What time will the practice sessions and Q&A sessions be?

All sessions will occur on Tuesdays at 7pm eastern time. The live q&a's occur biweekly, interspersed with the meditation and natal chart reading sessions

How long will the live sessions last?

Practice sessions last for an hour. Q&A’s go as long as they need to go until everyone has their questions answered and everyone feels like they have a sufficient grasp of the material.

Will there be recordings?

Of course! And all recordings will be posted on Mighty Network

I want to take the course but I don’t want to join Mighty Networks. Can I do that?

You can. All the materials and links for live sessions will be emailed to you directly. But I highly recommend joining Mighty Networks. You get the opportunity to be involved and converse with your class very frequently, and engage in a lot of practice posts and learn more in a group environment. You will also have the benefit of connecting to students who have already taken this course and have some experience with the material.

What's the expected time commitment for this course?

To keep up with the reading material and assignments will take approdximately 2-3 hours per week.

However, between the practice sessions, Q&A's, reading, homework, and daily spiritual practice, you could be committing upwards of 8-10 hours a week. Some people devote even more time to it.
